Veritone Scores with Italian Soccer Club Work

Professional soccer club Internazionale Milano has enlisted Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq:VERI) to help manage its archived footage.

The Italian team, better known as Inter Milan, is using an artificial intelligence system based on Veritone’s aiWARE and the Zoom media asset management platform made by Evolphin Software Inc. of San Ramon.

Mike Morper, vice president of product marketing for Veritone, told the Business Journal that the system will help Inter Milan keep track of game footage, interviews, shots of practices and similar events for advertising, promotion and “lots of different uses.”

“With all of their game footage indexed—e.g. the ability to quickly find players, logos of sponsors in the background, etc.—they now have the ability to quickly search through moments in their massive archive to publish a specific highlight to social media, or share with an advertiser so they could do the same,” Morper said.

Forbes values Inter Milan at nearly $700 million, making it the 15th-most valuable soccer club in the world.

It’s the first professional sports team known to be using the Costa Mesa-based firm’s software.

Indexing, Managing

Together, the Veritone and Evolphin system lets Inter Milan take care of “indexing, managing, and monetizing its massive library of archived and current content,” the companies said in a news release last month.

“Inter Milan is able to give its stakeholders around the globe faster and more efficient access to tailored content,” the companies said, without specifying a price for the agreement.

Veritone’s aiWARE uses advanced artificial intelligence techniques to generate descriptive information about the desired content, such as “spoken words, faces, logos, or advertiser names mentioned, making the content indexed and searchable,” according to the companies.

The information is then sent back to Evolphin Zoom for further handling after it is analyzed by aiWARE.

Veritone President Ryan Steelberg said his company and Evolphin “look forward to helping Inter Milan leverage our aiWARE platform to get maximum benefit out of its tremendously valuable content library.”
