UCI Health is relocating some departments from its flagship facility in Orange to the Arena Corporate Center in Anaheim after striking a 64,000-square-foot lease.
The new UCI Health location at 1500 S. Douglass will now be home to administrative and other nonclinical departments, such as finance, purchasing and call centers.
The move is intended to create more space for clinical uses and provide better parking and access for patients at the system’s flagship facility, UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to a UCI spokesperson.
“Improving access for patients and families at UCI Medical Center is an ongoing goal for UCI Health,” said Chief Operating Officer Chad Lefteris. “We are constantly evaluating the relocation of nonclinical services and support functions currently located at the medical center to allow us to expand our clinical offerings in the most efficient and easy-to-access manner.”
The Anaheim site is about two miles from its Orange facilities.
UCI is also planning upgrades for approximately 40,000 square feet at its Orange facility at 200 S. Manchester to accommodate new administrative offices for clinical services. UCI owns the 146,300-square-foot building.
New Owners
The Anaheim lease, which started last month and runs through 2023, was brokered by the Irvine office of JLL.
Last November, an affiliate of the Henry and Susan Samueli family, the owners of the Anaheim Ducks, paid about $125 million for the Arena Corporate Center office complex, a trio of low-rise offices that total about 385,000 square feet. It sits to the immediate north of the Honda Center.
The Ducks also occupy some space at the office complex for their operations, according to CoStar Group Inc. records.
Broadcom co-founder Henry and his family—who are also major donors to UCI—now owns or controls more than 75 acres to the east of the Orange (57) Freeway, running north from ARTIC to Ball Road. Mixed-use development plans are expected to be announced for the land in the upcoming months.
