The Source OC Turning on the Bright Lights

Digital billboards—think Times Square, L.A. Live, the Vegas Strip—are coming to Buena Park.

Buena Park-based developer M+D Properties said it’ll work with South Korean firm Ina Display to install “mega-sized” full-motion LED displays at its three-year-old shopping and entertainment center in the city, The Source OC, envisioning everything from ads and live feeds to integrated media art and informational displays for passersby and visitors inside the center, according to the developer.

There will be 40-foot-tall curved-edge displays above the rooftop terrace area and the top-floor of the center’s office tower to target drivers on the 91 (Artesia) Freeway and at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue.

Inside The Source, several displays totaling a width of 220 feet will wrap around the main plaza. M+D said more than 200 events a year are held in the plaza and “dynamic integration of new digital media will exponentially heighten the quality of events and enhance the experience of thousands of guests” daily.

The center opened in late 2016; it includes 400,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space, with a large part of its tenant base geared toward the area’s Korean-American community.

Tenants include Olympic Golf Zone and CGV Cinemas, a 4D luxury movie theater that offers visitors Korean subtitles and Korean films.

An office was also built as part of The Source’s initial phase of development; a Hilton Hotel is expected to open on the eastern side of the The Source this summer.

M&D also plans a nearby, related mixed-use development with 34 apartments that city officials approved last year.

Bollare Sets Up Local Shop

Communications firm Bollare planted a flag in Orange County last month with the opening of its fourth office, in Newport Beach.

The local location has already welcomed a few notable OC natives like Lauren Conrad and ABC’s “The Bachelor” contestant Amanda Stanton.

The West Hollywood-based firm celebrated its new digs by hosting its first event in OC three weeks ago, for famed L.A. photographer and longtime client Gray Malin.

The art gallery-inspired party, attended by Conrad and Stanton, showcased Malin’s latest series “Beaches,” featuring aerial shots of Newport Beach surfers, Emerald Bay boats and Shaws Cove in Laguna Beach, among other sites and subjects. Prices for the images start at about $250.

Founder and Chief Executive Alle Fister said the timing of her firm’s new office and Malin’s latest work fit well.

“We’ve had the opportunity to work with Gray Malin for about six years now, and … he was shooting an Orange County series,” Fister said, adding that it presented the perfect opportunity to welcome the community and debut Malin’s work.

Fister said Bollare needed a local presence for clients such as Vans, Volcom, RVCA, LSpace and Vitamin A.

“We’re always thinking of our clients [and] how we can support their business,” she said. “The influence Orange County has on surf, fitness, wellness—certainly a hub for great commerce for our clients—it’s really important.”

The office will be headed by Jessica Bosworth.

Bollare was founded in 2006 and has 65 employees with additional offices in London and New York. Clients also include Timberland, Daniel Wellington, Gooseberry Intimates, and What Goes Around Comes Around.
