Builders for Babies

HomeAid Orange County, in partnership with the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, hosted the second annual Builders 4 Babies diaper drive and competition on April 29 underneath the Big A at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The event collected more than a million diapers in just four hours.
“Not many people are aware of how important and expensive diapers are,” said Scott Larson, executive director of HomeAid OC. “The average cost of diapers for a family is $100 a month. So for some low-income families, they have to make a serious economic decision—food or diapers.”
Building Industry Association of Southern California members, including Lennar, Brookfield Residential, Toll Brothers, Shea Homes, William Lyon Homes, the New Home Company, Reliable Wholesale Lumber and CalAtlantic Homes, came together to help collect diaper donations and other essential items for homeless babies in Southern California.
The structures were judged by Undersheriff Don Barnes, Anaheim Councilwoman Kris Murray, Mission Viejo Mayor Pro Tem Wendy Bucknum, Wahoo’s Fish Taco owner Wing Lam, and Greer Wylder of Greer’s OC.
Lennar was awarded the Grand Award for Best in Show. The People’s Choice Award was presented to CalAtlantic Homes, with Brookfield Homes a close second.
