Key to Success

Affordable Housing Access Inc. was the main sponsor of the Project Access 10th annual Keys to Success Gala: Start Small, Dream Big.

The gala took place Sept. 19 in the Samueli Theater at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. The James Bond movie-themed event earned more than $288,000 to help support the nonprofit group’s Family and Senior Resource Centers, which offer financial education programs and job training, among other opportunities.

This year’s Keys to Success Award honoree was Danuel Stanger, chief asset officer of Bridge Investment Group Holdings LLC.

A former Project Access resident delivered a testimonial about how the organization made a positive impact on her family’s life.

Event sponsors also included Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Discovery Cube, Mazda USA, CVS, Bank of the West and the Anaheim Hilton.

Women Leading the Way

BNY Mellon Wealth Management; AECOM; Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher LLP; St. Joseph Health; Angels Baseball; Coca-Cola Refreshments; Kaiser Permanente Orange County; and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP were among the Orange County companies that sponsored the Girl Scouts of Orange County’s sixth annual Celebrate Leadership event.

The event drew more than 300 business and community leaders who came together to recognize six local female leaders, all Girl Scout alumni. The event raised nearly $244,000 for Girl Scouts of Orange County.

The 2013 Celebrate Leadership Honorees were Sue Graham-Sparks, vice president and store manager of Macy’s South Coast Plaza; Corinne Burton, president of Teacher Created Materials Publishing; Tanya Domier, chief executive of Advantage Sales & Marketing LLC; Jacqueline Akerblom, West Region managing partner at Grant Thornton LLP; Sumiko Katayama, vice president and treasury relationship manager of Commercial Banking Treasury Services at MUFG Union Bank NA; and Deborah Proctor of president and chief executive of St. Joseph Health.

Funds raised at the event will support Girl Scouts of Orange County’s leadership development programs for more than 21,000 Girl Scouts and also be used to recruit, train, and support the more than 9,000 volunteers who guide and support them.

No Limits

United Cerebral Palsy of Orange County held its 21st Life Without Limits Autumn Golf Classic on Oct. 19 at the Santa Ana Country Club. Proceeds of $167,000 will provide comprehensive services to families of children 0-22 with developmental disabilities, including Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delay, and children at risk for developing a developmental delay.

More than 100 golfers, including many of the county’s key business leaders, played in the scramble-format tournament.

The tournament was sponsored by DLD Insurance Brokers Inc. and chaired by Michael Marshall of First Team Real Estate; Scott Pievac of SPC Retail Display Group; and Blair Minnis of City National Bank.

Higher Level of Caring

SeniorServ, Orange County’s largest nonprofit senior nutrition and support services provider, held its fifth annual Senior Care Hero Awards on Oct. 17 at The Grove of Anaheim.

A crowd of about 700 celebrated finalists and honorees in several senior-care-award categories. The black-tie event raised $125,000, which will be used to support SeniorServ’s Meals on Wheels program.

Event sponsors included Cigna, CareMore, St. Joseph/Hoag Health, Ernst & Young, Aetna and Pacific Group.

George Fields, chief medical officer of CareMore Essentials, received the lifetime achievement award. “Dr. Fields is a pioneer in many areas of senior healthcare and hospice,” said Leeba Lessin, CareMore’s chief executive. “He’s a true hero who sees patients as human beings—their mind, body and spirit.”

Newport Beach-based Arbor Real Estate donated $3,000 toward replacing a 70-year-old coral tree at Ensign View Park that split in half due to age. … All of the male associates at Corona del Mar-based Hanley Investment Group Real Estate Advisors are growing mustaches during November for the company’s fifth annual “Movember” campaign, which raises awareness regarding different areas of men’s health, including prostate cancer and poor mental health. … More than 400 Orange County community members, firefighters, and law enforcement came together for the Jon Coutchie Memorial Day of Celebration fundraiser on Sept. 20, raising more than $15,000 to benefit Community Service Programs’ Laguna Beach Youth Shelter.
