PHILANTHROPY

Supporters Give, Get Love

More than 900 leaders from the Orange County legal community joined the Public Law Center for the Volunteers for Justice 2015 Annual Dinner at Hotel Irvine on June 22.

The event honored philanthropists, companies, and individuals whose efforts have helped transform the lives of the county’s most vulnerable and poorest residents.

Hyundai Motor America was honored as Corporate Partner of the Year for its commitment to the law center’s Conservatorship and Guardianship Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Other award winners included Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, which provided 2,500 hours of pro bono service to law center clients last year, and Anna Strasburg Davis, the director of Public Interest Programs at the University of California-Irvine School of Law, who earned the Attorney of the Year award. Students from UCI Law have contributed more than 40,000 pro bono hours since Davis created the program during the school’s inaugural year of 2009-10.

The event raised a record $725,000, which will be used to support law center programs.

Celebrating 50 Years of Giving

TCA Architects of Irvine has, over the course of a decade and a half, raised more than $1 million for Habitat for Humanity through its annual golf tournament.

The $110,000 raised at the 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on June 11 at the Oak Tree Golf Club in Irvine put TCA over the million-dollar mark. Proceeds from this year’s sold-out event will be used to build and repair affordable homes for low-income families in Anaheim, Cypress, Fullerton and Westminster.

Event sponsors included Adidas Golf, Hyundai Motor America and TaylorMade.

“Partnering with Habitat for Humanity is a natural fit for us,” said Aram Chahbazian, TCA Architect’s president and managing partner. “Our annual charity golf tournament allows us to engage the community in our efforts to promote the organization’s core values through an event that is both enjoyable and well attended each year.”
