On a Mission
Mission Plasticos raised $1.3 million at the annual Celebration of Global Friendships Gala at the Balboa Bay Resort on Sept. 11. The funds will help support the nonprofit’s mission to provide reconstructive surgical care to those in medically underserved communities around the globe.
Sientra was presented the Corporate Humanitarian award for its investment, which enables Mission Plasticos to complete the journey of care for thousands of women unable to access post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Dr. Hans Keirstead, chief executive and board member, AIVITA Biomedical, received the Global Humanitarian award for his humanitarian and scientific achievements which have saved and improved lives across the globe.

Getzlaf Gets It
Hosted by Paige and Ryan Getzlaf, captain of the Anaheim Ducks and former Stanley Cup champion, the 10th Annual Getzlaf Golf Shootout was held on Sept. 11 at the Monarch Beach Golf Links. The event raised more than $800,000 in support of CureDuchenne.
The charity golf event brought together local athletes, celebrities and community leaders to raise funds for CureDuchenne’s community programs and investments into lifesaving Duchenne muscular dystrophy research to improve the lives of the Duchenne boys, young men and their families. The event included a golf tournament, awards reception and dinner.

True Romance
Mission San Juan’s Romance of the Mission benefit gala was held on Sept. 17 on the historic grounds of Mission San Juan Capistrano. With limited attendance and health protocols in place, nearly 350 contributed to the evening’s success with gross proceeds of just over $650,000, which will benefit the care and stewardship of the nearly 245-year-old landmark.
Major underwriting was provided by Kerry Herbert, member, Mission Preservation Board, and her husband Gavin Herbert Jr., director, Regenesis Bioremediation Products, CEO, Roger’s Gardens, and Lugano Diamonds. Additional sponsors included Inn at the Mission San Juan Capistrano, Swiss Connection Inc. and Jean-Jacques Mamie Fine Jewelry and Jim Curwood, owner, Buy My Bikes.
Valet services were provided by Brand Enhance Parking and Margaux Pierog Kugelman, director, regional accounts Southern California, Republic National Distributing Company, provided the spirits marking the evening’s success.
During the evening program, Connie Spenuzza, author and International Latino Book Award winner and her husband, Peter Spenuzza, CEO, Imperial Commercial Cooking Equipment, were recognized for their longtime philanthropy and support of the Mission.
Culinary Extravaganza
Table for Ten, orchestrated annually by Kristin Martin and KM Productions for deserving nonprofits, held its 15th culinary extravaganza at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana with more than 300 gourmet food and wine lovers attending. The sold-out event raised more than $480,000 to help Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire address the needs of children in crisis.
The evening featured dinner in the Bowers Museum courtyard, where guests enjoyed a five-course repast created tableside by top Orange County chefs, wine pairings, and tables uniquely decorated by each restaurant. Event sponsors included title sponsors Mary Murfey, executive director, Corning Advisors and Patti Grundhofer, philanthropist; Mike Danzi, Danzi Capital Group, Nestle Waters, Moongoat Coffee and Melissa’s Variety Produce.

South Coast Repertory is giving 1,000 complimentary tickets to Orange County healthcare workers through Nov. 6 for “A Shot Rang Out,” which marks SCR’s return to live theatre and was written by Richard Greenberg, Tony Award-winning playwright and features David Ivers, SCR Artistic Director, returning to the stage. … Girls Inc. of Orange County’s Girls Meet the Workforce externship, where girls receive support in navigating the process of college and career preparedness, has been awarded a $25,000 grant by the U.S. Bank Foundation to support the program. … Proactive Sports Performance, has partnered with the Orangewood Foundation to provide Orangewood residents with programs and services that focus on health and wellness, housing, life skills and employment, and education.
