Lasting Impression
Whittier Trust Co. hosted a private reception and tour for clients and VIPs at the Hilbert Museum immediately following Chapman University’s Economic Forecast Update on June 21. The Museum focuses on the California Scene art movement from about 1930 to the present day. Current exhibitions include Westways magazine cover art from the Automobile Club of Southern California and landscapes and movie concept art of Disney artist Eyvind Earle.
Chapman University President Emeritus Jim Doti donated a collection of art to the museum that includes some of the top names in California art: Millard Sheets, Irv Wyner, Harry Anderson, Arthur Beaumont and Emil Kosa Jr.
“We are delighted to welcome Whittier Trust to the Hilbert Museum and to host this wonderful reception,” said museum art donor Mark Hilbert. “As a special treat, we also have an exhibit of a dozen fine-art pieces gifted to the museum by Jim Doti … from his own collection of California art.”
Greg Custer, executive vice president in charge of Whittier’s Orange County office, said that “Coupling this highly anticipated event with the new Hilbert Museum tour and reception showcases our shared value of developing young people. Hilbert Museum is an important addition to Orange County’s cultural blooming.”
Goodwill for Vets
Goodwill of Orange County hosted its annual Goodwill Golf Invitational on June 11 at the Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Beach. More than $185,000 was raised to support Goodwill’s Tierney Center for Veteran Services, a comprehensive resource connecting veterans and their families to services that enhance their lives.
Original Tommy’s, Singlepoint Insurance Services Inc. and Union Bank sponsored the invitational at the silver level. Other event sponsors included Coyne Development Corp., Easton Pacific Construction Co., KSJG LLP, Kaiser Permanente, McDermott & Bull Inc., Rutan & Tucker LLP, Signature Estate & Investment Advisors LLC, Talley & Co., Weintraub Tobin and Wells Fargo.
Lifting Dreams
In celebration of its 35 years of serving young people in low-income communities through the power of dance, The Wooden Floor has unveiled its largest comprehensive campaign to date, Lift: The Campaign for The Wooden Floor.
The effort was announced at its 35th-anniversary celebration dinner and concert on June 1 to a sold-out audience of 180 supporters, students, alumni and guests. The event took place at Irvine Barclay Theatre.
Lift is a four-year, $27.2 million campaign. It’s already reached nearly $14 million in current commitments and is entering its public phase of support. The Lift campaign is part of The Wooden Floor’s 10-year Strategic Vision 2010-2020, which is designed to serve more students and deepen the nonprofit group’s impact.
With the public campaign now underway, The Wooden Floor is reaching out to individuals, private and family foundations, and local companies to invest in its year-round holistic model, which empowers underserved students through dance, academic, college and career readiness, and family-support programs, all free of charge.
Bold Future
On June 2, more than 280 philanthropists gathered at Kia Motors North America in Irvine for My Bold Future, hosted by Girls Inc. of Orange County.
The event raised $380,000 toward scholarships for girls participating in Girls Inc.’s My Bold Future programs, and introduced young women who completed its College Bound program. In the spring, 29 girls completed the program and will attend colleges this fall that include University of Notre Dame; University of Colorado Boulder; UC-Santa Barbara; California State University-Dominguez Hills; California State University-Fullerton; California State University-Long Beach; Chapman University; Loyola Marymount University; and Vanguard University.

The Arbonne Charitable Foundation partnered with CHOC Children’s to support its annual oncology prom on June 23 at the healthcare system’s Orange campus. The event helps cancer survivors and teens still battling cancer enjoy a night filled with music, dancing, casino tables, food, photos, raffle prizes, special guests, celebrities and more. … YMCA of Orange County announced the addition of three new board members: Lisa Alonso, senior vice president of human resources at HCP Inc.; Jess Meyers, director of financial management services at the Lyndon Group; and Michael Proud, director of missions at the Orange County Southern Baptist Association. … Executives of independent wealth- management firm Aspiriant LLC served breakfast at the Ronald McDonald House on July 13 as part of the annual national Day of Giving.
