PHILANTHROPY

Firms Care About Kids

Irvine Public Schools Foundation hosted its fifth annual Top 100 Reception on Feb. 6 at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach. A hundred companies were honored for their commitment to excellence in education by supporting the foundation’s mission. The companies included global brands, such as Google, Maruchan and Kia Motors, as well as some of Orange County’s most influential corporations, including DCI Engineers, Microsemi, FivePoint and Ingersoll Rand/Trane.

Corporate giving to the foundation last year, including city of Irvine Challenge Match Grant funds, totaled more than $3 million.

“These partnerships have provided a foundation for IPSF to fund grants that allow teachers to bring new, innovative curriculum to the classroom, build maker spaces to foster creativity and collaboration, and bring the Irvine CubeSat STEM Program to every high school in Irvine,” said foundation President and Chief Executive Neda Eaton.

Beautiful Gesture

Beauty in Grace, a women’s giving circle that supports women’s health programs at Saddleback Medical Center, is donating $68,000 to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Saddleback Medical Center to purchase video streaming equipment. The equipment will allow parents to have a constant live view of their babies through a smartphone app, even when they’re not at the hospital with their child.

The money was raised by $1,000 dues paid by each of Beauty in Grace’s 68 members at its annual luncheon, which was held on Jan. 25 at Shady Canyon Golf Club.

Each year, the Beauty in Grace giving circle pools membership gifts to make a significant donation to a women’s health program at Saddleback. Last year, gifts helped purchase breast MRI equipment for the MemorialCare Breast Center.

Perfect 10

The Pacific Life Foundation presented a $10,000 grant on Jan. 25 to OC Gateway to Housing at a ceremony at Newport Beach Country Club.

The money will be used for the nonprofit’s Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families and cover supportive services, such as subsidized child care, transportation assistance, mental health therapy and food subsidies for homeless families with children.

“The grant from Pacific Life Foundation will allow OC Gateway to Housing to cover critical supportive services to our homeless families,” said the organization’s executive director, Laura Miller. “The supportive services, such as case management and subsidized child care are essential to moving our families to self-sufficiency.”

Having a Ball Helping

Hoag Hospital Foundation welcomed more than 600 Hoag supporters, volunteers and friends to the Monarch Beach Resort to celebrate the 51st Annual Christmas Carol Ball on Dec. 9. Breaking all previous records, the ball raised more than $1.79 million to support Hoag. Event underwriters included the Iacocca Family Foundation, CHOC Children’s Foundation, Newport Critical Care Physicians, Sea Crest Home Health Services Inc. and Sterling BMW.

“Our passionate donor community has a direct and positive impact on Hoag’s ability to innovate and serve as a leader in care,” said foundation President Flynn A. Andrizzi. He said the foundation has raised 82% of its Hoag Promise Campaign goal and hopes to reach and exceed it by 2020.
