Packaging Outfit In San Clemente Sold

San Clemente-based Pacific Packaging Machinery Inc. has been acquired on undisclosed terms by Pro Mach Inc. in Covington, Ky.

Pacific Packaging provides custom-built machines and products to fill containers with thick liquids, such as peanut butter and sealing caulk.

The deal expands Pro Mach’s business into California and gives it entrée into the food, pharmaceutical, personal care and chemicals industries here, said John Eklund, vice president of marketing for Pro Mach, which has specialized in machinery for the packaging of spirits and other products.

The acquisition is expected to create a company with 15,000 machines installed in various markets.

No layoffs are planned at Pacific Packaging’s facility in San Clemente.

“Pacific Packaging has a very strong national brand, and we intend to keep the company intact,” Eklund said.

The company developed products earlier this year to fill 55-gallon drums in about 60 seconds and 275-gallon reinforced plastic containers in about five minutes.
