The California Milk Processor Board in San Clemente launched the “California Thrives on Milk” campaign, designed to “help guide consumers to more healthful choices this summer” via educational events in Los Angeles, Fresno and Bakersfield.
The nonprofit organization, better known for its long-standing “got milk?” advertising campaign, is funded by the state’s milk processors and overseen by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
The experiential portion of the campaign includes weekend “smart shopping” grocery store tours, where registered dietitians will “help shoppers identify nutritious food choices, understand nutrition labels, and share healthy meal recipes incorporating milk.” The board is hosting a “Before and After Refrigerator Makeover” in each city, giving away a refrigerator stocked with healthy foods. It’s also raising awareness about the campaign through a partnership with sisters Liz and Carmen Milian from the E network’s reality TV show, “Christina Milian Turned Up,” who will share healthy recipes featuring milk.
“While California is a leading producer of agriculture including wholesome milk, many who live here lack the education they need to support wise eating habits for themselves and their families,” said Steve James, the nonprofit’s executive director, in a statement. “We’re working to change that with a range of free community-based wellness offerings.”
Advertising agency Gallegos United in Huntington Beach developed the campaign.
