Major indices were down on higher oil production, lower oil prices and a general energy sector sell-off.
The S&P 500 was down 1.1% to $1,069.78. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 1% to 17,664.35. The Nasdaq was down 1% to 5,089.72.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 3% to 2.21%.
The price of gold was down 0.8% to $1,075.
TECHNOLOGY
Orange County clean tech companies were down on moderate-to-high volume as oil prices stayed low.
Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was down 7.1% to $3.88 and a $352 million market cap. The operator of natural gas stations had traded shares at a rate about 40% higher than its 90-day average by midday. Lake Forest-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. was down 4.3% to 85 cents and a $24 million market cap. Quantum makes compressed natural gas storage tanks.
Irvine-based Lantronix Inc. was up 3.6% to $1.16 and a $17.5 million market cap. The networking products maker named a new chief executive, the former CEO of Emulex Corp. in Costa Mesa.
