The S&P 500 was up 0.9% in midday trading to 2,012.44.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.8% to 17,061.11.
The Nasdaq was up 1% to 4,829.29.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 1.9% to 2.02%.
The price of gold was up 0.6% to $1,187.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. was down 2.8% to $80.93 and a $19 billion market cap, a slight improvement after the storage products maker opened the day about 4.5% down. Competitor Seagate Technology said it would report revenue lower than previously expected and a decline in the number of units shipped, year-over-year, in its quarterly report, which is expected at the end of the month.
Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. was up 2.6% to $36.26 and a $3.5 billion market cap in a second day of share price increases after an analyst initiated coverage yesterday with a “buy” rating and a $42 price target.
