Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 was up 0.8% to 2,084.64 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5% to 17,946.75 and the Nasdaq was up 1% to 4,845.44.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond declined 0.7% to 1.97%.

The price of gold was flat at $1,220.30.

REAL ESTATE

Santa Ana-based First American Financial Corp. was up 4% to $36.44 and a $3.9 billion market cap. The title insurance services company reported a 3% increase in revenue and a 60% increase in net income for its most recent quarter, compared with the same period last year. Its full-year 2014 numbers compared with 2013 showed a 6% decline in revenue to $4.7 billion with a 25% hike in net income to $233 million.

EDUCATION

Santa Ana-based Corinthian Colleges Inc. was down 26% to three cents and a $2.5 million market cap. The for-profit schools operator said its shares would be delisted from Nasdaq on Tuesday, Feb. 17, for failure to timely file reports for two quarters and one fiscal year. Corinthian is winding down its business and said it wouldn’t appeal the decision.

TECHNOLOGY

Lake Forest-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. was down 5.5% to $3.08 and a $71.7 million market cap. The company said it would price an offering of 4 million shares of common stock at $2.50 per share, with a 600,000 share overallotment for underwriters. The maker of natural gas fuel systems expects net proceeds of $9.1 million to $10.5 million from the offering.
