Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 rose 0.33% to 1,957.24 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.45% to 16,752.17 and the Nasdaq rose 0.26% to 4,464.50.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond declined 0.31% to 2.27%.

The price of gold was up 0.24% to 1,232.10.

RESTAURANTS

Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. was up 25% to $41.47 and a market cap of $1.2 billion on its quarterly report. The casual dining chain said revenue in the third quarter was $206.5 million, up 9% compared with a year earlier. Net income was up 77.7% to $6.5 million. Same-store sales were flat and the average check size declined in the third quarter, and the company said profits stemmed from cost-cutting.

HEALTHCARE

Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. was up 11% to $116.90 and a market cap of $12.4 billion on third quarter results that showed revenue and profit each grew about 23%, exceeding analysts’ expectations. Revenue totaled $607.4 million, with profits of $94.6 million.
