The S&P 500 declined 0.29% to 1,935.71.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.49% to 16,532.96 and the Nasdaq dropped 0.39% to 4,402.04.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.4% to 2.24%.
The price of gold was down 0.54% to $1,245.
TECHNOLOGY
Irvine-based chip maker Broadcom Corp. was up 6.2% to $39.63 and a market cap of $23.4 billion on a strong quarterly report. It posted revenue of $2.26 billion and adjusted profits of $569 million, up 5.3% and 23.7% respectively compared to the same period last year, and beating analyst forecasts for both.
BANKING
Irvine-based Pacific Premier Bancorp Inc. was up 3.9% to $15.30 and a market cap of $261.1 million. The bank holding company reported third quarter net income of $5.5 million or 31 cents per share, up about 14.8% from the same period last year when it earned $4.6 million or 27 cents per share. It also bought a competitor and at midday had surpassed its 90-day trading average in number of shares by one-third.
