The S&P 500 rose 0.38% to 1,973.39 in midday trading.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.54% to 17,037.89 and the Nasdaq rose 0.39% to 4,84.36.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.15% to 2.54%.
The price of gold was down 0.51% to $1,218.40.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc. rose 1.2% to $176.90 and a market cap of $52.6 billion. Evanston, Ill.-based Pentwater Capital Management, which owns about 4 million shares or 1.3% of the company, said it’s opposed to any acquisition by Allergan that isn’t voted on by shareholders. Hostile suitor Laval, Quebec-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. shares rose slightly to $128.50 for a market cap of $43.1 billion.
