Mazda Gets Essential On Latest Drive

Free oil changes and car cleaning for healthcare workers in the U.S. will continue through this month from Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations.

The automaker said it’s extending its Essential Car Care program through June 1, offering to pump at least $5 million into the do-good effort.

Essential Car Care was first announced April 16 and includes interior and exterior vehicle cleaning along with standard oil changes, with all workers adhering to Centers for Disease Control health and safety advisories while providing the services.

The program extends to most manufacturers’ models, not just Mazda.

The company declined through a spokesman to say how many vehicles have so far been serviced under the program, but said many local dealers have each served anywhere from 200 to 250 healthcare workers since day one of the program.

Locally, that includes Tustin Mazda, Huntington Beach Mazda, Capistrano Mazda, Tuttle-Click Mazda and Mazda of Orange.

Some 86% of Mazda’s dealerships nationally are participating in the program, the spokesman said.

Mazda North American Operations oversees a collective of more than 600 dealers across the U.S. and Mexico.

Mazda, like many other automakers, has also rolled out safeguards for its consumers impacted by coronavirus-related furloughs or directly from COVID-19 via its financial services arm.

Mazda vehicles leased or financed through Mazda Capital Services have options of payment assistance, lease extensions and early returns. No payments for 90 days on car purchases are also being offered through the automaker.
