Lindquist Legacy; Julia Turns 19; Jun’s Latest

Here’s a bet that Jack Lindquist got a couple of extra smiles before his recent passing at the age of 88. The longtime boss of Disneyland—he knew Walt Disney well, and Michael Eisner made him the first executive to hold the title of president of the park—spent decades sinking OC roots and building ties to the community of business here. He remained a prominent civic leader after his retirement from Disney and played a key role in efforts to keep the L.A. Rams in Anaheim—a spirited try that came up short but added some definition to this market along the way. It’s notable that Lindquist lived to see the Rams return to Southern California, and while the football team will call Inglewood home it’s a darn sight closer to its old OC stomping grounds than St. Louis. It’s also notable that Lindquist lived to see current Disneyland Resort President Michael Colglazier resume the tradition of building community ties. Colglazier recently was appointed chair of the UCI Chief Executive Roundtable, effective in July … Community colleges also produce community ties. Consider Hayes Drumwright, a proud graduate of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, who’s profiled in a front-page piece by Chris Casacchia. Drumwright went on to graduate from Boston University and do plenty more, but he’s still quick to note that OCC’s swim team could do laps around most Division I programs … You heard it here first: 2016 will be the year that Bill Gross gets his groove back under his new flag at Janus … Also put 2016 down as the year that the financial press fully realizes that the Gross-PIMCO standoff might be a zero-sum game in a court of law but that that’s not the case in the marketplace … And keep an eye on Mohamed El-Erian, the former PIMCO CEO who still keeps tabs for parent Allianz and whose name might turn up as a possible cabinet player if we see a new Clinton Administration. You and a couple of friends could ask El-Erian about any Washington-based ambitions he might harbor over a power lunch at the Center Club—provided you can manage to make the winning bid during the silent auction at the Orange County School of the Arts annual gala on March 12 at Hotel Irvine … Happy 19th birthday to Julia Argyros—and the Insider does know how to count … Happy travels to Sandy Segerstrom Daniels, whose name no doubt counts in the most fashionable of ateliers in Europe. It’s still OC that counts with her, though—as evidenced by the pose she struck on the streets of Toulon with pals Nancy and Tom Wilson and Mae DelaBarre. The photo made its way to Westways magazine’s Orange County edition and appears in the “For Members” section of the publication’s March/April issue … Kacy Jun, co-founder and chef of Urban Seoul—which started at Diamond Jamboree and opened its second restaurant at the Irvine Spectrum shopping center—is stirring up a buzz in the Little Tokyo district of L.A., where a third location of the bibimbap and fusion specialist opened just a half-block south of the Japanese American National Museum a few months ago. Word on the street up there has Jun hard at work on a new “project”—which could mean any number of things in the foodie world these days.
