J.D. Power and Associates in Costa Mesa will trade hands again, three years after it was sold to China-backed XIO Group for $1.1 billion. Thoma Bravo LLC, a San Francisco-based private equity firm has agreed to acquire J.D. Power on undisclosed terms. Reuters and other news outlets, citing confidential sources, have pegged the deal at about $2 billion.
“We are thrilled to partner with Thoma Bravo, a firm that clearly understands our space and is well positioned to help us develop new growth opportunities and continue on our current path of rapid expansion,” J.D. Power President and Chief Executive Dave Habiger said in a statement.
Thoma Bravo’s portfolio includes Irvine-based software company Kofax Inc.
Founded in 1968 and famous for its Power Circle Ratings, J.D. Power conducts independent consumer surveys of product and service quality and customer satisfaction in industries such as automotive, financial services, healthcare, insurance, energy, and telecommunications. The company also works on behalf of corporate clients to analyze consumer preference data to help drive and define brand strategies. It has offices in 16 cities throughout North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America, and it posted $370 million in revenue, according to PE Hub.
