The American Advertising Federation of Orange County rolled out the red carpet for the advertising community at its annual awards ceremony at Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach.
President Rachel Svoboda said the work submitted by big and small agencies to in-house teams proves OC is a destination market for those in the creative industry.
“If last year was a blank canvas for us, I feel like we’ve done a really good job as a community to color that canvas, to paint it with amazing work, amazing talent and amazing brands here in Orange County,” she said.
Angela Zepeda, senior vice president of business development at Innocean USA, received a standing ovation for a speech about the women’s group it launched last year called Innfluence. It comes after two sexual harassment lawsuits filed against the agency last month, one involving Chief Creative Officer Eric Springer, who’s been placed on leave.
Advertising veteran Jon Gothold—outfitted in a snazzy blazer with embroidered red roses—received the lifetime achievement award. The partner and executive creative director at Amusement Park got his start in advertising in 1977. He and his staff have won more OC ADDY awards than any other individual agency in the history of the local chapter.
Meanwhile, Gigasavvy took home the most wins with 36 awards.

Slim Down
Costa Mesa-based provider of weight loss management programs Lindora Inc. wants to reach everyone.
The company announced an advertising and branding campaign last month called “For Anyone” across TV, radio and digital ads.
Steve Patterson, Lindora’s vice president of marketing, said research showed many people had misconceptions about the brand and its offerings.
“People believed our programs were highly intensive and only aimed at patients who are morbidly obese,” Patterson said. “The truth is that Lindora Clinic is for just about anyone who wants to lose weight.”
He said it’s also wrongly viewed as being expensive, but through its new member pricing, patients can pay about $3 per day.
The TV spots will run on local news and entertainment shows, including “The Today Show” and “Extra.” Radio schedules are aimed at morning and evening drive times on stations, such as KIIS-FM, 102.7, and KTWV-FM, 94.7 The Wave.
Reborn
Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. in Cypress launched a national marketing campaign for its 2018 Eclipse Cross.
The CUV is getting reborn like the music featured in the spot. Emmy award-winning violinist Damien Escobar and pianist, recording artist and producer William Joseph reinterpreted the classic rock song “I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister.
“The product speaks for itself, we didn’t feel we needed to create a false reality around it,” said John Butler, chief creative officer at Sausalito-based Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners.
The campaign started airing last month and marks the return of the CUV model to network television. It will also run on cable TV, online and outdoor billboards.
