Hyundai Motor America Inc. in Fountain Valley said one of its four upcoming Super Bowl ads “will use compelling storytelling to highlight the core values of the brand and what Hyundai delivers to its consumers.” The other three ads will focus on the 2017 Elantra and the luxury Genesis line.
Ads were directed by Peter Berg of Pony Show Productions, whose credits include sports drama “Friday Night Lights;” Aaron Stoller and Janusz Kaminski of Biscuit Filmworks; and MJZ Productions’ Fredrik Bond, who directed Puma and Budweiser ads in 2012.
“We collaborated with these world-class directors to create what we think will be incredibly engaging and memorable ads,” Hyundai Chief Marketing Officer Dean Evans said in a statement. “As we are finishing up shooting the spots, seeing their talent and skill in storytelling was inspirational to our entire team. We can’t wait to see the finished products.”
Listen in Color
Amusement Park in Santa Ana and its sister agency, Amusement Park Entertainment in Los Angeles, created “Listen in Color” for HARMAN International’s JBL brand. The 2-minute video promoting wireless speakers features Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry and the “Bigger Than Us” song by “basketballer-turned-rapper” Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers.
“While Stephen has been revolutionizing the game on the court, [Damian] has been changing the hip-hop game and the world through his music, and we loved the association,” Amusement Park Entertainment Chief Executive Jimmy Smith said in a statement. “Dame’s ‘Bigger Than Us’ song, developed exclusively for us, speaks to the times in an unusually inclusive way. The result transcends hip-hop, basketball and advertising.”
The 90-second version of the spot debuted on ABC and ESPN during the networks’ Christmas Day broadcasts of the Golden State Warriors-Cleveland Cavaliers and L.A. Lakers-L.A. Clippers games.
Dip That!
The Hass Avocado Board, a Mission Viejo-based agriculture promotion group established in 2002 to promote the consumption of Hass avocados in the U.S., is asking Americans for help in setting the world record for the largest online photo album of people dipping food—just in time for the Big Game. Photos should be tagged with #GuacGoal and posted on social media from Jan. 22 to Feb. 7 for a chance to win the grand prize of $500, two runner-up prizes of $250, and one of seven footballs signed by Joe Montana.
The board also partnered with foodbeast.com to develop three original avocado-based recipes that were shared with the site’s followers.
Americans ate 123 million pounds of avocados during Super Bowl week last year, 95% of which were of the Haas variety, according to the group, which gets its funding from Hass avocado producers and importers in the U.S.
The separate California Avocado Commission is headquartered in Irvine.
