Hospitality Company Puts Lincoln Logs to PR Work

Great Wolf Lodge Southern California sent out a box of Lincoln Logs to local media to perk their interest in the 603-room resort and indoor water park scheduled to open early next year in Garden Grove.

The effort was spearheaded by the company’s in-house marketing team, which created 75 media kits out of 20 large, 699-piece Lincoln Logs playsets they bought on Amazon.com.

The slogan on the Lincoln Logs instruction sheet says, “We’re building a new lodge! You can, too!”

“Our hope is that people would put it together and keep it on their desk,” said spokesperson Susan Storey, adding that she used to play with the classic toy when she was little.

Lincoln Logs were invented in 1916 by John Lloyd Wright, son of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The logs, despite the special place they hold in many American’s childhood memories, apparently aren’t universally recognized. A young intern who was helping with the project didn’t know what they were, Storey said.

Great Wolf Lodge parent company Great Wolf Resorts Inc. in Madison, Wis., owns 12 indoor water park resorts. It hired the Los Angeles-based Allison+Partners public relations firm in July to handle media duties for its Orange County property.

Roxy at the Swim Collective

Roxy’s marketing efforts for next year will include swimwear as a main focus, according to Yvonne Clements, the brand’s U.S. marketing manager.

“It will influence everything we do, from connecting with our core customer through brand awareness in local shops to bringing Roxy’s successful #RunSUPYoga events to more cities around the globe,” Clements said. “Of course, we’ll also [continue] targeting fashion magazines in the print and digital space, as well as leverage blogger partnerships that fit with the Roxy lifestyle.”

The brand, a division of Quiksilver Inc. in Huntington Beach, was among more than 360 swimwear labels showcasing their spring and summer 2016 lines at the Swim Collective Tradeshow Aug. 12 and 13 at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort.

Hyundai Vision

Hyundai Motor America Inc. is getting comfortable at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The Fountain Valley-based automaker introduced its “Vision G” concept vehicle at the museum on Aug. 11.

“The concept was designed with coordinated input from Hyundai design studios around the world, but was led by our team here in the U.S.,” Peter Schreyer, Hyundai’s president and chief design officer, said in a statement. “The design is our interpretation of the idea that Hyundai breathes into all of its vehicles, a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don’t need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues.”

“Vision G,” which features a 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine, also appeared at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Aug.16 in Monterey.

Hyundai Motor America’s Korea-based parent, Hyundai Motor Co., in March signed a 10-year sponsorship of LACMA that supports the museum’s acquisitions and exhibitions focused on Korean art, among other programs.
