Hooray Agency Tapped For Pebble Beach Refresh

While the U.S. Open Championship at Pebble Beach celebrated its 119th year at last week’s tournament, it also marked the debut of a new branding and merchandising logo, thanks to Irvine-based firm Hooray Agency, formerly known as HyperDisk Marketing.

The U.S. Open’s logo was made to look more contemporary but still highlight the golf tournament’s long history.

Hooray President Steven Seghers said the firm worked closely with Pebble Beach Chief Executive Bill Perocchi and the late RJ Harper, executive vice president of golf for Pebble Beach.

“Having been awarded the U.S. Open Championship logo design contract in January 2015, we were honored to carry on the tradition of excellence for Pebble Beach and the USGA,” Seghers said in a statement.

He added that the agency made sure to create a logo and brand identity that would capture “the legacy, the commitment to national pride, and the passion of golf and sports enthusiasts around the world.”

The updated design includes a stripe representing each year that Pebble Beach has hosted the U.S. Open, as well as “an embellishment beneath the famous Lone Cypress tree represent[ing] both the crashing waves of holes seven and eight, as well as the wing of our nation’s bald eagle.”

Pebble Beach has hosted five previous U.S. Opens and is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.

“We wanted the logo to feel contemporary and fresh, yet also to embrace the grand tradition of this world-class tournament,” Seghers said.
