A five-story Corona del Mar home with ties to billionaire Larry Van Tuyl and his wife, Patricia, is back on the market with an asking price of $23.9 million.
Nearly invisible from the street, the 7,168-square-foot bluff-top home on Ocean Boulevard has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It was designed by Newport Beach-based Brion Jeannette Architecture and is the only privately gated residence in the area, according to listing details.
There’s an elevator, smart home system, private guest quarters, family room with floor-to-ceiling windows, separate office, a Jacuzzi tub on the first-floor balcony, as well as a cabana and fire pit outside. Steps also lead potential buyers directly to the beach.
Property records indicate that the home is owned by a limited liability corporation affiliated to the Van Tuyls’ trust. Records also show it was purchased in 2007 for $18.1 million. Brokers representing the property declined to comment on the home’s current ownership.
The home has been on and off the market since 2017. The couple also own other area homes including the iconic “Big Blue House,” which they purchased for a combined $55 million from the Irvine family heirs, according to The Yolanda’s Little Black Book website.
Van Tuyl, who is reported to own the $125 million superyacht “Vanish,” owned one of the largest privately held car dealerships in the country before selling the business to Berkshire Hathaway in 2014. It’s been renamed Berkshire Hathaway Automotive. Forbes estimated the sale to be worth at least $2.3 billion.
Kim Walker and Mollie Butcher of Compass have the Ocean Boulevard listing.
