Billed as a home offering respite from the day-to-day stress of work is a Newport Coast house in the hills of Crystal Cove with an asking price of $16.3 million, $2.4 million higher than when it first hit the market this time last year.
Designed by Newport Beach-based architecture firm CJ Light Associates, the renovated 6,435-square-foot home has four bedrooms and two bathrooms with ocean views.
The master suite has heated floors in the bathroom, dual closets including one with turquoise-colored cabinetry and doors that lead to the home’s “beach-entry” infinity pool and spa.
Other amenities include a catering kitchen with a 15-foot island, gym, entertainment room, library, his and hers office, a bar and a 1,000-square-foot covered loggia with built-in BBQ. It also has an infrared security system and Crestron smart home system.
Records link the home to San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Chairwoman Lynn Valbuena and her husband, Stephen, a football coach at Fullerton College.
Lynn Valbuena, who has been involved in tribal politics for nearly 45 years, also heads the Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations. The community figure and great-great-granddaughter of Santos Manuel—the namesake of the tribe, which operates San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino—was inducted into the American Gaming Association’s Hall of Fame in 2015.
Paul Daftarian, Michael Balliet and Obeid Habibi of Luxe Real Estate have the listing.
Glass House at The Strand
Brandon Architects in Costa Mesa has made its mark at The Strand at Headlands, designing several pricey homes inside the Dana Point guard-gated community.
Another Brandon-designed home, at 35 Beach View Ave., is on the market with an asking price of $15.5 million—a short walk from a $17.2 million listing also designed by the firm, which the Business Journal featured in February.
The latest offering is a 7,014-square-foot contemporary-style home with five bedrooms, six bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, a floating staircase with a glass railing that connects to a hallway bridge, and balconies also framed with glass railings.
The property also has an office, lounge space with wine room, game room, laundry room and elevator. The kitchen has a walk-in pantry and separate catering kitchen. The master bedroom has a skylight, fireplace and walk-in closet.
Walking outside, guests are greeted with a pool, loggia and glass fireplace. There is room for up to three cars in the garage.
Listing details show the home last traded hands in 2017 for $13.7 million; property records list the owner as longtime healthcare executive Dennis Kogod, former chief executive of DaVita Inc.’s international division and president of HealthCare Partners.
Arlen Raubach of Residential Agent Inc. has the listing, as well as the $17.2 million listing at 17 Beach View Ave.
