Over 350 people celebrated the winners of the Business Journal’s second annual Innovator of the Year Awards as the event’s keynote speaker extolled the value of serendipity in the process of innovation.
Stuart Frost, chief executive and chairman of Frost Data Capital, described the ability to recognize and act on serendipity as the most exciting opportunity in conceiving and developing products and services.
San Juan Capistrano-based Frost Data Capital is a combined incubator and venture capital firm that has launched more than 20 technology startups.
The awards luncheon event took place at Hotel Irvine on Thursday. This year’s honorees are:
• Dr. Aaron Elliott, chief executive of Ambry Genetics.
• Mitchell Brin, senior vice president of Global Drug Development and chief scientific officer for Botox at Allergan PLC.
• Stuart McClure, founder and chief executive of Cylance Inc.
• Dr. Benjamin Park, founder and chief technology officer of Enevate Corp.
• Annette Walker, division president of Providence St. Joseph Health.
