Orange Coast College named Kevin Ballinger interim president as it searches for a permanent replacement for retiring President Dennis Harkins, who’s departing at the end of the fall term. Ballinger is currently vice president of instruction at the 70-year-old community college in Costa Mesa, which has 25,000 students and 150 academic programs. Harkins has been president since 2009.

Newport Beach-based Beacon Pointe Advisors, which has more than $9 billion in assets under management, hired former UBS Global Asset Management executive Michael Dow as chief investment officer and investment committee chairman. He worked in a variety of roles at Newport Beach-based Pacific Investment Management Co. from 1995 to 2003, including as an investment grade corporate bond portfolio manager.

Irvine-based Xponential Fitness added the Pure Barre chain of workout studios to its growing stable of boutique fitness brands, reported trade publication Franchise Times, which didn’t say whether terms of the acquisition were disclosed. Denver-based Pure Barre has 500 studios in the U.S. and Canada, according to the story. Xponential also owns the Club Pilates brand, along with Row House and the danced-based AKT workout concept.
