Greg Macias has been named brand director for Buena Park-based Yamaha Corporation of America, one of the country’s largest makers of musical instruments.
“Yamaha is transforming its approach to branding and marketing and I’m excited to be on the front line,” Macias said in a statement. “I welcome our team’s challenge to bring the ‘Make Waves’ promise to life, inspiring and empowering musicians, potential musicians and anyone who enjoys listening to music.”
He will report to Corporate Vice President of Integrated Marketing Matt Searfus.
Macias, a self-taught drummer and guitarist, previously served as chief marketing officer at Magnivation, a Boston-based startup allowing kids to create 3D printed smart toys.
He has served as director of marketing at Asics North America, whose domestic operations are based in Irvine, overseeing digital, sports, retail, event marketing, and partnerships such as with the New York City and Los Angeles Marathon and World Series of Beach Volleyball. The marketing veteran spent 12 years at Quiksilver Inc., now under Huntington Beach-based Boardriders Inc., as vice president of marketing.
He received his bachelor’s degree in economics at University of California-Irvine.
Searfus said he’s grateful to have Macias help tell the company’s story and he “knows how to create strong connections between brands and consumers.” `
