Ball Bearing Maker Plans Detroit Move

Ningbo, China-based CW Bearing Inc. will move its North American headquarters in Tustin to suburban Detroit.

The privately held company manufactures ball bearings used in electrical motors, gearboxes, power tools and autos, according to its website. It keeps its headquarters on Dow Avenue in Tustin, with support offices in North Carolina, Missouri and Michigan.

CW Bearing’s parent company, Cixing Group Co., was founded in 1984 by its current president, Hu Xiangen. CW Bearing was established as a subsidiary in 1994.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said CW Bearing plans to invest $25.9 million to build a new headquarters in Northville Township on the outskirts of Detroit. Snyder met with executives from CW Bearing and other Chinese manufacturers during an eight-day trade mission to the Asian nation to promote Michigan business late last month.

CW Bearing is expected to bring 125 jobs to the 50,000-square-foot facility. The company got a $550,000 performance-based grant from the state and property-tax abatement from Northville Township, an Automotive News article said.

CW Bearing executives could not be reached for comment.
