Anduril Buys Area-I

Defense technology company Anduril Industries in Irvine said it has acquired Area-I, a company that specializes in unmanned aerial systems. No financial details were disclosed.

The acquisition expands Anduril’s portfolio of such systems, and accelerates the company’s strategic growth, the company said in a statement posted on its blog.

Founded in 2009 and based in the metro Atlanta region, Area-I will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anduril and will continue to operate under the Area-I brand. Its products include the Altius platform for what are called “tube-launched aircraft.”

Anduril was founded by Orange County entrepreneur Palmer Luckey.
