The Sporting Scene

The Mighty Ducks and Angels dominate the local sports scene but the county is home to many other sports events.

Many of the gymnastics, basketball and bull riding events are expected to bring more than 10,000 people to Orange County.

California State Games, an amateur sports festival supported by the U.S. Olympic Committee, is expected to draw 20,000 people in the summer. It features archery, badminton, basketball, figure skating, gymnastics and ice hockey, among other competitions.

Big West Conference Basketball Tournament, an annual competition in March, is expected to draw about 17,400 people. Conference schools include California State University, Fullerton, University of California, Irvine and California State University, Long Beach.

United Spirit Association, which runs training camps for cheerleaders, dance teams and band members, is expected to attract 13,000 people in February for the All-Star Nationals and Junior Spirit Nationals competitions, and 14,000 in March for Spirit Nationals and Dance/Drill Nationals.
