Tarsadia, Hard Rock Sign on Hotel Project
Costa Mesa-based Tarsadia Hotels last week signed an agreement with Hard Rock Cafe International Inc. to develop and operate a 250-room hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter.
The hotel is slated to open in summer 2006.
The $100-million plan also includes restaurants, condominiums and retail outlets on a parcel purchased by Tarsadia last year. A parking lot and historic building currently sit on the land near the entrance to the Gaslamp District and a block from the San Diego Convention Center.
Tarsadia has expressed interest in developing more Hard Rock hotels, according to Trevor Horwell, Hard Rock vice president of hotels and casinos, in a release.
Tarsadia President Greg Casserly said the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego is a perfect fit for the Gaslamp Quarter.
“It’s really high-concept stuff: cutting-edge design, exciting retail and restaurants, unique meeting and event spaces and a great rock ‘n’ roll energy in everything they touch,” Casserly said.
Tarsadia owns or operates 18 hotels with roughly 5,000 rooms in Orange County, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas. The company ranked No. 43 on the most recent Business Journal list of privately held companies, with estimated revenue of $150 million last year.
The company was founded by B.U. Patel, a native of India, who launched the business in 1976 with the purchase of a 20-room motel in Anaheim.
