Anaheim-based clothing retailer Styles for Less plans to move its headquarters and about 50 employees to Santa Fe Springs.
The company has signed a $5.3 million lease for an 80,000-square-foot facility. Augie DeAngelo, Styles spokesman, said the new site was reasonably priced and accommodates the company’s projected growth.
“It is a distribution advantage for us because 90% of our goods come from Los Angeles. And it’s closer to Los Angeles,” DeAngelo said. “We’re very happy with the move.”
Styles for Less has 90 stores in Puerto Rico, Arizona, Nevada, California and Florida. By Jan. 1, the company plans to add three more, and it will open 30 new outlets in Florida and Chicago next year, DeAngelo said.
The company’s aggressive expansion plans don’t involve OC. The clothing retailer has about five stores here and no plans to open additional locations next year, DeAngelo said.
The privately held company has closed several OC stores over the years, including one in El Toro, he added.
DeAngelo said Styles for Less had signed short-term leases with options to leave if stores did not perform, “which was the case in a lot of our OC stores.”
“You need to obtain a high level of sales to make it profitable, because the rents are so high,” DeAngelo said. “Orange County has been very difficult for us.”
In the Santa Fe Springs lease, Styles for Less was represented by members of Voit Commercial Brokerage’s Anaheim Metro and Irvine offices.
