Irvine-based Sares-Regis Group has hired a veteran real estate financial executive as its new chief accounting officer.
Michael Heiken, 48, replaces Cindy Hyatt at the commercial and residential real estate development company. She left Sares-Regis earlier this year to move to the East Coast.
“This is a step up for me involving more responsibility and opportunity,” said Heiken.
Besides joining a larger firm, he added, Sares-Regis is much more diversified than his former employer’s real estate operations.
Before joining Sares-Regis, Heiken was vice president and controller at McMillin Companies in San Diego for four years.
“McMillin focused on land development and home building,” he said. “Sares-Regis is involved in more types of real estate activities and I have the added MIS responsibilities here.”
Since moving to Orange County recently, Heiken has helped Sares-Regis convert its mid-frame hardware and software systems. “We’re working toward improving our financial reporting capabilities,” he said. “I’d like to provide the data to other departments to empower them to have more timely and accurate information.”
Heiken has moved with his wife, Donna, and three children to San Clemente.
“I had been commuting for weeks from San Diego,” he said with a laugh.
