Carlsbad-based Rubio’s Restaurants Inc. is taking a high-profile step into the back yard of rival Wahoo’s Fish Taco with plans to open two restaurants inside the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim early next year.
The Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill restaurants are part of a four-year deal that includes radio advertising and other marketing, including a Rubio’s Zamboni that preps the ice during Mighty Ducks of Anaheim hockey games.
Rubio’s is a bigger rival of Santa Ana-based Wahoo’s Fish Taco. Both companies got their inspiration from their founders’ surfing trips to Baja California.
