Harlem Globetrotters at Honda Center, Anaheim
Saturday shows at 1 p.m., 7 p.m. Tickets $16 to $147
If you’re betting on this one, go with the Globies. Now in their 82nd season, the Harlem Globetrotters have won more than 22,500 games in the team’s history and have lost just 345. On Saturday, the team takes on the Washington Generals, who managed to pull out a win back in 1962. Sure, the Globetrotters are silly, even hackneyed. But their games, part basketball theatrics, part Vaudeville, are a blast for kids and lighthearted sports fans. Some of the team’s greats, including Curly Neal, are back on the bench showing support for a new crop of players who mix trickery and gags with real skills. “It’s the same great recipe,” said Eugene “Wildkat” Edgerson, a former University of Arizona player who sports a trademark retro Afro. Edgerson, a forward, came to the Globetrotters with basketball skills “and showmanship already inside me. It gave me a chance for it to come out.” Plus, you get to wear those great red, white and blue uniforms: “You truly standout with an American flag-looking uniform,” he said.
