Commercial construction remained fairly active in Orange County through the second quarter.
There was about 4.3 million square feet of office, industrial and retail space under construction in the period.
South County has three retail projects under way totaling more than 1 million square feet. Projects include the expansion of the Irvine Spectrum Center to include Nordstrom and Target, as well as the Plaza at San Clemente at Vista Hermosa and the San Diego (I-5) Freeway.
A few redevelopments under way in the county include Lake Forest’s The Arbor and Orchard at Saddleback, Orangefair Marketplace in Fullerton and the Costco center in La Habra.
Two community retail centers in Anaheim are about half finished. They are set to add 325,000 square feet to the market when completed.
Another project in the works: The Strand in Huntington Beach.
The Surf City site is set for a 152,460-square-foot specialty center with Abercrombie & Fitch and Victoria’s Secret as anchors. It’s expected to be completed in about a year.
The industrial sector currently has 18 buildings with nearly 1 million square feet under construction.
Industrial projects include six research and development buildings at Tustin Gateway that are expected to be finished in the third quarter.
Other industrial construction includes three warehouse buildings on Rancho Road in Huntington Beach and another three on Astronautics, also in Huntington Beach.
Completions during the second quarter took place on Bell Avenue in Tustin with 114,500 square feet of warehouse space, 17200 Red Hill Ave. with 62,600 square feet and a 32,850-square-foot manufacturing building at Talega Business Park in San Clemente.
In the office market, two of the eight buildings at Centrepointe in Mission Viejo completed construction in the second quarter, adding 9,680 square feet.
Scholle Center broke ground on a four-story office building in the second quarter. This is the first of four buildings at an expected 560,000-square-foot complex.
Valle Ranch has three buildings under construction and is expected to complete them in December of this year. The complex is set to add 54,373 square feet of single-story, class B space in San Juan Capistrano.
Building No. 7 at Brea Corporate Park is expected to be completed in September, adding 21,367 square feet in North County.
