Disney Lawsuit

The Anaheim Resort district is a center for tourism in California and a major source of jobs and funding for Anaheim.

The success of my business and numerous others is directly related to the success of the Anaheim Resort district.

But it is the residents of Anaheim who truly benefit from the significant revenue generated by the district. It supports vital city services, such as police and fire.

This is why I am, along with the Anaheim/Orange County Visitors & Convention Bureau board of directors, firmly committed to the preservation of the Anaheim Resort district.

The strength and viability of the Anaheim Resort district is under attack by a developer (Irvine-based SunCal Cos.).

Unfortunately the City Council allowed this. I applaud Disney for taking action to preserve the resort district.

Anaheim is the envy of other cities because of its vibrant and successful resort area. The taxpayers of Anaheim are the ultimate winners because 50% of general fund revenues come from this source.

We believe in their right to continue benefiting from this unique and world-class destination.

It would be extremely shortsighted to set a precedent that jeopardizes this great success and the future revenue stream to Anaheim.

Cities such as Anaheim have carefully prescribed planning processes that are based on open and public discussions and analysis of important details around any development.

Discarding that process sets a very dangerous precedent. In this case, it would nullify the Anaheim Resort area zoning and threaten the future economic viability of the city.
