Irvine’s Quality Systems Inc. named director and longtime local healthcare executive Steven Plochocki as its chief executive on Tuesday.
Plochocki replaces Lou Silverman, Quality’s boss since 2000.
The company makes software that doctors and dentists use to manage their practices. Quality has grown as doctors look to go from paper to medical records.
It had a recent market value of $1.1 billion with its shares up about 30% for the year.
Plochocki has been a director since 2004 and takes over as chief executive on Saturday.
Earlier in Plochocki’s career, he was chief executive of Lake Forest-based medical scanning provider InSight Health Services Holdings Corp. and was president and chief operating officer of Lake Forest-based home healthcare provider Apria Healthcare Group Inc. in the mid-1990s.
Plochocki came to Quality as part of a slate of management-backed directors during the company’s board battle with a key shareholder.
For the past few years, shareholder and director Ahmed Hussein has fought with Quality executives, including the retiring Silverman, over their pay and the makeup of the company’s board.
Earlier this year, Hussein said he was appealing a court ruling that rejected his request to set aside the company’s board vote in September.
