Procom Technology Inc., an Irvine provider of data server appliances, received a contract from Hyundai Group to supply the Seoul-based conglomerate with network attached storage filters.
Procom signed the deal with Hyundai Information Technology Co., a unit counting $500 million in annual sales. Network attached servers are designed to easily expand storage capacity on existing data networks.
According to Procom vice president of international sales Herbert Perer, Hyundai Information Technology will start deploying Procom’s servers within its research and development center in January. From there, it will roll out the product throughout the entire 39-company Hyundai Group, which includes Hyundai Motors, Hyundai Electronics and Hyundai Department Stores.
“HIT will also resell the filters to other companies, including large end users and resellers,” Perer said. “And that includes other South Korean conglomerates like Samsung, as well that country’s major banks and insurance corporations.”
Under terms of the alliance, Procom becomes a contracted network server supplier to Hyundai. To get things under way, Hyundai plans to send engineers to Procom within a few weeks to receive technical training, according to Perer. In addition, Procom is helping Hyundai localize network server data sheets, and has given the company’s research center a few of the products to help its tech staff get up to speed as quickly as possible.
Hyundai Information Technology approves and recommends all high-tech products and services used within Hyundai Group. The conglomerate has annual sales revenue of $85 billion and employs 180,000 people worldwide. n
