City National Bank gave $1 million from the Affordable Housing program to the Village of Hope, Orange County Rescue Mission’s renovation of the barracks and homes on the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station that will provide shelter to the county’s homeless.
The Children and Families Commission of Orange County approved $500,000 in grants for Collette’s Children’s Home, Community and School Collaboration, Cypress School District, Down Syndrome Association of Orange County, Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center, YMCA of Orange County’s Childcare Health Consultation Program and The Cambodian Family.
Insuring the Children’s Orange County chapter gave grants totaling $125,000 to seven Southern California charities, including Orange County Child Abuse Center, Orange County YMCA’s ARK program, Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles, Childhelp USA, Orangewood Children’s Foundation and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County.
Education for the Children Foundation said its Race for Education fund-raiser in the spring raised more than $100,000. The funds will be used as teacher grants for South County public schools.
The Stearns Family Charitable Foundation donated $100,000 to the Canyon Acres Homes for Abused Children. The foundation presented the gift at the starting line of the Southern California half marathon in Irvine earlier this year.
Costa Mesa Unit-ed’s 2005 Mesa Verde Golf Classic, dinner and auction raised $65,000 for a community football field and a pool at Costa Mesa High School. Weichman Associ-ates Realtors donated $2,000 at the fund-raiser.
Orange-based Sisters of St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation awarded a grant of $50,000 to the Laguna Beach Community Clinic to provide case management services for its chronic care patients.
Pierre Andr & #233; Senizergues, founder and chief executive of Sole Technology Inc., donated $30,000 to the city of Lake Forest to keep the etnies Skatepark free for a year. Etnies is a brand of shoe maker Sole Technology.
CHOC Follies 2005 received $26,400 from Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills to support the hospital’s annual musical event. Caliber donates $100 to Children’s Hospital of Orange County for every new car sold.
Tustin Ranch Golf Club donated more than $26,000 in greens fees in its fund-raiser with Surf Aid International. The funds will help tsunami victims on Nias, an island off western Sumatra.
Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley gave $25,000 to help the Orange County affiliate of Habitat for Humanity build a home in Santa Ana for a family with a handicapped child.
Great Legs Wine Inc. in Newport Beach helped raise more than $14,000 at a fund-raiser and silent auction for Save the Children. The funds were raised to help the victims of the tsunami.
The Orange Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Bureau’s Signage Conservation Task Force received $9,700 from Bank of America Corp. toward saving the historic wall signs in Old Towne Orange.
Eye surgeon Gregg Feinerman, founder and medical director of the Feinerman Vision Institute in Newport Beach, established “Operation In-Sight,” a program offering free corrective eye surgery to needy individuals and public workers, such as firefighters and lifeguards.
A grant from the South Orange County Community College District helped the Doyle G. McKinney Theatre at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo go ahead with its $1.4 million sound and lighting systems upgrade.
Four homes in Westminster were given to families by Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. The city of Westminster, banks, churches and businesses donated the lands and money. Hundreds of volunteers helped build the homes.
Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County worked with the Orange County Dental Society, Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, St. Joseph Hospital, Anaheim Memorial Medical Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove and Crest Healthy Smiles 2010 held five events in Orange County in February for the national “Give Kids a Smile Day.” Numerous community clinics and private dental providers also gave free dental treatment.
Garden Grove’s Community Spirit Award was given to the Assistance League of Garden Grove for outstanding contributions to the community. The Assistance League supports programs that provide low-cost dental care and free clothing for underserved children.
Pacific Monarch Resorts gave $35,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County for Kid’s Cafe. The donation will fund the first year of Kid’s Cafe providing after school meals to children at the Boys and Girls Club of San Juan Capistrano.
