The Home Builders Council, Santa Ana, raised $18,434 at a recent event. The money will support scholarship programs for future builders and developers.

Volunteers in support of Girls Inc. of Orange County, a national youth organization helping girls ages 5-18, dug a trench for an 8-foot safety wall at its main center in Costa Mesa on June 17. The wall will increase the safety and well-being of the children at the center.

More than 150 people attended a prospecting party in Coto de Caza to review sponsorship and promotional opportunities for the Cattle Baron’s Ball Oct. 21 that benefits the American Cancer Society.

More than 75 Orange County companies competed in the IMUA Outrigger Canoe Club’s 7th Annual Corporate Challenge on June 17 to benefit the Hoag Cancer Center and Newport Bay Naturalist Friends.

The American Cancer Society held two Relay for Life events in Orange County at Golden West College, June 9 and 10, and at Saddleback College June 3 and 4. The events raised nearly $200,000 that will support patient services and educational programs in OC and aid cancer research.

The Yellow Pages Advertising Council, in support of its charity partner Literacy Volunteers of America, is launching a 22-city tour named Get An Idea to help adults learn to read.

Fifty corporate executives of Orange County gathered at the American Cancer Society’s Corporate Symposium to discuss how working with the charity can benefit their businesses.

The Irvine Spectrum Center was the site of this year’s Orange Blossom Ball which raised over $250,000 for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation. The donations will help the foundation support the Orangewood Children’s Home and aid disadvantaged foster children.

Kevin Rosenburg, managing director of BridgeGate in Irvine, led an effort to raise money for the Irvine Public Schools Foundation. Households in Rosenburg’s community made donations to the foundation that were matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis by BridgeGate. Together the fundraiser compiled over$4,400 for the schools.

The JMG Annual Benefit Golf Tournament generated $31,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Huntington Beach.

PairGain Technologies Inc. chairman Charles Strauch and his wife, Nan, pledged $2 million to the Landmark College, Putney, Vermont, capital campaign.

Pacific Bell assembled more than 300 walkers for the 14 Annual AIDS Walk Orange County. Pacific Bell estimates that it will raise $30,000 for the AIDS Services Foundation, bringing this year’s total contribution to more than $45,000.

The Saddleback Memorial Foundation of Laguna Hills, sponsored the 2 Annual Flo-Jo Memorial Half Marathon and 5K. Other beneficiaries of this event include the Simon Youth Foundation and the Flo-Jo Memorial Community Empowerment Foundation. Florence Griffith Joyner, a five-time Olympic Medallist, resided in Orange County until her death in 1998.

Newport Dunes Resort hosted the 43rd Annual Whale Launch at which children from the Mariners Elementary School helped Newport Dunes launch the summer season at the resort.

The Huntington Beach Community Clinic’s Support Group auctioned off 48 rubber ducks autographed by celebrities to support the 8th Annual Duck-A-Thon.
