CONSTRUCTION

David S. Smith was named account manager for the Irvine office of Pepper Construction Group. Smith will be responsible for business development, boosting name recognition and keeping existing client relationships. Additionally, Jennifer C. Salter was named as marketing assistant.

San Diego-based Roel Construction Co. hired Mark Sumpf as director of the automotive advisory group and Ania Sorbe and Ann Yraza as project coordinators for the auto group in Irvine.

ENGINEERING

Howard Wen joined Irvine-based Fuscoe Engineering Inc.’s wa-tershed management division as environmental scientist.

FINANCE

Harbor National Bank appointed Rene Van Horne as vice president and commercial lending officer for the Dana Point office.

The Costa Mesa office of Trenwith Securities LLC added Richard J. Sample and Douglas D. Ivan as co-managing directors of their corporate services group.

Charles J. Wahle joined the Irvine office of Barrington Associates as vice president.

HEALTHCARE

Adept Medical Concepts Inc., a Rancho Santa Margarita-based medical laser distributor, named Bert Hawkins chief financial officer.

Irvine-based Cogent Healthcare Inc., a provider of inpatient management services, appointed Irina McKeehan Campbell as director of clinical development and quality care.

LAW

Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott LLP named three attorneys to its Irvine office: John C. Condas, Kenneth S. Kramer and Darren W. Stroud. Condas and Kramer will work as partners with the land use group. Stroud will work as an associate with the group.

Gerard L. Oskam joined the Irvine office of Jackson, DeMarco & Peckenpaugh as of counsel in the business and corporate group. The firm also added two new associates: Taylor B. Chi joined the firm’s common interest subdivision group and Julie L. Kafka joined the firm’s real estate group and business and corporate group.

The Irvine office of Nixon Peabody LLP added Stephen H. LaCount to its business and finance department.

NONPROFIT

The Blind Children’s Learning Center elected Scott Neururer as chair of its board. Neururer, who has been a member of the board since 1999, is vice president of corporate operations for PacifiCare Health Systems Inc.

The UC Irvine Engineering Advisory Board named Dwight Streit, vice president of microelectronics technology at Redondo Beach-based Northrop Grumman Corp.’s Space Technology sector, chair. The board provides strategic oversight and support to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering. Streit succeeds Henry Samueli, cofounder and chief technology officer of Broadcom Corp., who chaired the board since 1999.

SERVICES

Garden Grove-based Shakey’s Inc. promoted Sonia Barajas-Najera to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Barajas-Najera previously served as controller and corporate director of Shakey’s since 1999.

TECHNOLOGY

Shawn Noonan joined Back Bay Fitness in Newport Beach as director of physical therapy programs. Noonan, who formerly worked as a fitness consultant at Culver City-based Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., will specialize in weight loss, cardiac issues, injury and post-surgical programs.

Irvine-based National Alarm Computer Center, a nationwide provider of security systems services, has added Patrick Hart as interactive video monitoring manager, a new position within the company.

Jan Plessner joined Irvine-based Kawasaki Motors Corp. as media relations manager. Plesser will oversee media communications for Kawasaki’s motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, Mule utility vehicles and Jet Ski watercraft.
