ACCOUNTING

Grant Thornton LLP, an accounting, tax and business advisory company, added Doug McCombs as a partner in Grant Thornton’s Assurance Services practice in Irvine.

ARCHITECTURE

A.C. Atherton joined KKE Architects Inc. as a principal and head of its West Coast Hospitality group, based in the Irvine office.

ASSOCIATIONS

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger chose Michael Merino to be a representative on the California Architect Board. Merino is principal and chief executive of Orange-based Michael Merino Architects and is an active member of the Orange Chamber of Commerce. The board establishes regulations for examination and licensing of architects in the state.

CONSULTING

William Roberts joined Canada-based Stantec Inc.’s risk management and corporate development team as corporate counsel for its California offices. Roberts will work from the Irvine office. Stantec provides professional design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying and project management.

EDUCATION

Arthur Kraft, dean of the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University, was named chair of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, an ac-crediting agency for a university’s business school. Kraft will serve a one-year term.

FINANCE

Brookstone Capital Inc. in Costa Mesa, an investment company specializing in alternative investments, hired Vincent M. Visoiu as senior foreign currency trader and portfolio manager to head its new currency trading unit, BrookstoneFX LLC.

HEALTHCARE

Barbara A. Niksch was appointed by the Department of Health and Human Services as the industry representative on the Federal Drug Administration’s Ophthalmic Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee. Niksch is vice president of regulatory, quality and clinical affairs of Irvine-based Visiogen Inc., an eye device maker.

HOTELS

San Clemente-based Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. promoted Randy Hulce to vice president, asset management.

The Island Hotel Newport Beach hired Barbara Eidson as community relations manager.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS

The Anaheim office of Schubert Flint Public Affairs added Sabrina Ross as new account coordinator. Additionally, consultant Tiffany Delepine in the Anaheim office has been retained for work in preparing for the general election in November.

REAL ESTATE

George Skrbin was promoted to chief operating officer of Aliso Viejo-based Merit Property Management Inc. Merit specializes in the management of masterplanned communities throughout the state.

Irvine-based Johnson Capital, a commercial real estate capital advisory firm, appointed Thomas C. Copeman to chief operating officer.

Irvine-based Michael L. Meyer Co., a real estate investment company, appointed Alexander Philips as a principal. Prior to joining the company, Philips was employed with GE Capital Real Estate as a relationship manager in the North American equity investments group.

TECHNOLOGY

Aliso Viejo-based Datallegro Inc., which makes data storage and search systems, added Richard Little as chief financial officer. He is the former chief financial officer of Teradata Corp., which now is a unit of NCR Corp.

Newport Beach-based Acacia Research Corp., which buys patents and receives licensing fees from users, added three vice presidents: Joseph Lee, vice president business development; Jacob Hawley, vice president engineering; and Marc Booth, vice president, engineering.

Irvine-based Worldlink Integration Group Inc., a technology services provider, appointed Joe Calamusa as national director of professional services.

Jeff A. Onesto joined Advanced Systems Integration Inc. as a senior business development executive. Lake Forest-based Advanced Systems resells Microsoft Corp. software and provides consulting services.
