PEOPLE

Julie Puentes, a longtime member of the Orange County Business Council, has joined the Hospital Association of Southern California.

Puentes left her post as the council’s executive vice president of public affairs to become regional vice president of the hospital association working out of its Garden Grove office.

Puentes is set to deal with political issues facing hospitals, including battles between Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and nurses. The group also lobbies for hospitals on earthquake standards, emergency room and mental health issues.

“My approach has always been to try and find the common ground and then see what can be done so that we are satisfying everyone’s needs,” Puentes said. ” I hope to be a positive influence with everyone I am working with and to be a problem solver for the hospitals.”

Puentes’ political expertise includes work for five legislators. She’s been a member of the business council since the group’s 1995 inception.

At the council, she handled issues such as transportation, water supply and ocean water quality.

Puentes said she enjoys the beach, cooking, gardening and being a mom. She has two sons, one who graduated from the University of Southern California and one about to finish up at USC’s cross-town rival, University of California, Los Angeles.

She’s also involved with the California Chamber of Commerce, the Orange County Public Affairs Association, the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse and the Capistrano Unified School District.
