Berger, Kahn, Shafton, Moss, Figler, Simon & Gladstone, elevated Catherine K. LaTempa, practicing insurance law, Jon G. Miller, practicing labor and employment law, and Stephen L. Weber, practicing construction law, to principals of the firm.

Nonprofit

Anthropologist Philippe Lapin was recently appointed to serve on the Orange County Natural History Museum board of directors. Experienced in specimen preparation and preservation, Lapin will provide schools, libraries and public buildings displays of various natural history subjects.

Janine Mason Barone was promoted to executive director of The Fieldstone Foundation, a nonprofit endowment organization in Newport Beach. Mary MacIntyre Hamilton was appointed to the newly created position of national director of The Fieldstone Leadership Network, Newport Beach, a philanthropic leadership training and mentoring program of The Fieldstone Foundation.

The American Cancer Society, Orange County Region appointed Dena Horne, of Orange, director of income development and Jennifer Horspool, of Brea, director of marketing communications. As director of income development, Horne is responsible for raising $4 million dollars for cancer fighting programs, services and research in Orange County. Horspool is responsible for all aspects of marketing and public relations, including creating awareness for all cancer patient programs, services and fundraising events.

Jerry Gates, president of Beazer Homes Southern California, was added to the board of directors of HomeAid America, Costa Mesa. A 27-year veteran of the homebuilding industry, Gates also serves on the board of directors for the Orange County Building Industry Association. HomeAid, a provider of shelter beds for the temporarily homeless, was founded in 1989 by the Building Industry Association of Southern California.

The board of directors of the Balboa Performing Arts Theater Foundation recently appointed Rosalind Williams as the 13th member of the board. The foundation’s mission is to raise community awareness and funds to renovate and operate the 1927 Balboa Theater as a performing arts theater.

Organizations

The Southern California Chapter of the Business Marketing Association, Irvine, named Diane Mayer, business development manager for J. Rice Communications Inc. of Santa Ana, membership chair. The Business Marketing Association is a trade association for business-to-business marketers and marketing communicators.

Orange County Superintendent of Education John Dean was installed as president of the Orange County Coast Association, a group of elected officials, business, environmental and community leaders from Seal Beach to San Clemente whose goal is the advancement of coastal Orange County. Dean follows Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva, who served one year as president of the 86-year-old association.

Publishing

YellowOnline.com, an Internet yellow pages company based in Anaheim, promoted Don Liddle to sales manager for Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

The OC Weekly, Costa Mesa, appointed Jeff Onderko sales manager. Onderko was previously the sales manager for the Orlando Weekly in Orlando, Florida.

Real Estate

Chateau San Juan, a retirement and assisted living community, appointed Meredith Holbrook, a gerontologist, executive director and Janet Crawford, LVN, assisted living director. Chateau San Juan, located in San Juan Capistrano, is operated by ARV Assisted Living Inc.

J.R. Pearce was appointed senior vice president for Koll Development Co.’s western division. Along with directing Koll’s day-to-day operations throughout the western U.S., Pearce will oversee the company’s regional offices in Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco and Denver. In addition, Bryan W. McGowan was appointed executive vice president and CFO of the company’s Newport Beach office. McGowan will focus on expanding Koll’s relationships in the capital markets arena in order to further facilitate growth in both the speculative and built-to-suit development segments of the company.

Professional Community Management Inc., Lake Forest, named Jon Lazarus general manager for the Huntington Landmark Senior Adult Community Association in Huntington Beach.

The National Association of Industrial Office Properties (NAIOP) appointed Thomas J. Trischler, principal of Trischler Associates in Orange, to the Mixed-Use Development National Forum. NAIOP developed national forums for its senior-level principal members with 10 or more years of industry experience and three or more years of association membership.

Melissa A. Holmes joined Catellus Residential Group as vice president of community development. She was previously a senior entitlement project coordinator with Walt Disney Imagineering.

The American Industrial Real Estate Association (AIR), Anaheim, brought on Maria Richards as regional client services representative. Richards comes to AIR from Colliers Seeley in Anaheim and Torrance where she worked as an IMS researcher.

Brian Garbutt has been named to the board of directors of Lee & Associates Newport Beach Inc. He was also made senior vice president of the commercial real estate firm. Garbutt joined the firm in 1996.

Transpacific Management Service, Santa Ana, promoted seven company employees to newly created positions as a result of company restructuring: Barbara Arnold, vice president education; Ildi Heredia, vice president support services; Diane Houston, vice president community management; Bill Korb, vice president legal affairs; Veronica Lopez, director of community relations; Michelle Thomson, vice president operations; and Shelie Xanthos, vice president new community development.

Retail

Dan Powers joined realityBUY.com, Irvine, as regional vice president of sales for the eastern U.S. and Mark Mortensen is now vice president of finance. RealityBUY.com is an e-commerce, business-to-business company based on interactive 3D technology .

HomeBase Inc., Irvine, appointed Ginger Sherman Silverman to vice president, marketing/advertising. Silverman was previously senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Prudential Real Estate and Relocation.

Security

Dennis Vanderpool joined JMG Security Systems, Fountain Valley, as operations manager. For the past 13 years, Vanderpool was the facilities operations manager at PacifiCare of California’s Cypress headquarters.

Telecommunications

Nextlink Communications, a provider of broadband communications services, named Lisa Sussman vice president of sales for the Los Angeles and Orange County markets. Sussman, formerly AT & T;’s director of sales in Southern California, will have market-wide responsibility for all sales revenue, sales support and all distribution channels.

Transportation

Alexander’s Moving & Storage Inc. named Greg Klott customer service manager for its Tustin office. Klott relocated to California from Florida five years ago.

Victor Iraheta was appointed managing principal for Walker Parking Consultants’ Newport Beach operations. A structural engineer and project manager with Walker since 1986, Victor was director of operations at the Tampa, Fla. office prior to relocating to Southern California.

Technology

OhGolly.com appointed Jennifer Carey director of marketing communications, Jeff Daniels vice president of direct marketing, Amy Kavanaugh vice president of marketing, Ron Mason director of business development, and Sheila Shelton vice president of subscriber acquisition and retention.

Software developer IPNet Solutions Inc., Newport Beach, appointed Jamie Graham vice president of product management. Graham joins IPNet from Wonderware Corp., where she settled the company’s global Internet strategy and defined its e-commerce initiatives.

Paul Wexler was promoted to executive vice president at Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Irvine. Wexler, who has been with the Toshiba for 16 years, was previously senior vice president of the company’s communications information group.

Sonance, San Clemente, appointed Dennis Locke chief financial officer. Locke most recently served as vice president of finance for Nobel Biocare USA Inc. in Yorba Linda. Sonance also named Steven Howell product specialist. In this newly created position, Howell is responsible for field training worldwide.
