Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corp., Long Beach, expanded its practice with the addition of three partners: James A. Cordova, partner in the tax department specializing in tax matters involving pass-through entities; Donita M. Joseph partner in the tax department focusing on estate and trust services for high-net-worth individuals; and Peter J. Scribner, partner in the audit department with a concentration on audits, reviews and related accounting services.
John A. Eckweiler was recently made a tax partner at the Orange County office of Singer Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein LLP. Eckweiler has 13 years of experience in tax planning, research and compliance services with specialization in dealing with federal, state and local taxing authorities.
Agriculture
Keith Lazenby was appointed site manager for Miramar Wholesale Nurseries’ San Juan Capistrano and Irvine/Lake Forest nursery sites. Lazenby owned a retail nursery in the San Fernando Valley for 15 years and was with California Landscape Maintenance for 17 years in San Juan Capistrano before Miramar took over.
Architecture
MCG Architecture appointed Jeffrey T. Gill, managing principal of the Irvine office, as director of business development for the Orange County Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Gill joined MCG in 1996 and was named managing principal in 1997.
Ware & Malcomb Architects, Irvine, added Leigh Ann Brannon and Richard Avila to its interiors group as project managers. Brannon has more than 10 years of design experience and holds a BA in Interior Design from California State University, Long Beach. Richard Avila was most recently with LPA and has more than 17 years of experience.
Sonance appointed Leslie R. Stevens marketing director. She was most recently product marketing manager at Sharp Electronics in Huntington Beach.
Newport-based JBZ Architecture & Planning named Ronald D. Krater director of planning. Prior to joining JBZ, Krater was a senior associate with the Irvine office of EDAW.
Architect Kevin L. Crook, a 17-year industry veteran, formed a new firm in Irvine, Kevin L. Crook Architect Inc. The firm will specialize in merchant-built residential architecture.
Banking/ Finance
Orange-based Marcap, a financial services firm, appointed David W. Nettel as West regional manager.
Business Services
Deloitte & Touche appointed Steven Jensen director of the firm’s federal tax controversy services group. Jensen formerly served as district director for the Internal Revenue Service in Los Angeles.
Construction
Andrew L. Youngquist Construction hired Albert M. Figone as project manager. Figone brings 22 years of experience in the construction and real estate development industry to the firm.
Chuck Poss, secretary of C.W. Poss Inc., was named president of the Southern California Contractors Association.
Irvine-based R.D. Olson Construction hired Herman Bezuidenhout as project manager. Bezuidenhout will be responsible for cost control and negotiating with subcontractors. Among his responsibilities will be oversight of construction on Marriott’s Newport Coast Villas, a 77-acre high-end vacation ownership resort in Newport Beach.
Education
Tony Lipold was named to the newly created post of assistant dean of the division of fine arts, physical education and athletics at Saddleback College. He will also oversee the college’s 19-sport athletic program. Lipold joins Saddleback after spending the past 12 years as the associated men’s students advisor and assistant men’s basketball coach at Long Beach City College.
Concordia University, Irvine, promoted Rev. Dr. Dean Vieselmeyer to executive vice president for community and church relations. In addition, Dr. Gary McDaniel was named vice president of student services.
Healthcare
Gary Mecklenburg, chief executive officer of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, has been named to the board of directors for Cogent Healthcare Inc., Laguna Hills. Mecklenburg is chairman of the American Hospital Association, a member of the boards of the Healthcare Research and Development Institute, the National Committee on Quality Healthcare and the Institute for Diversity in Health Management.
PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. named John F. Fritz to the newly created position of senior vice president, chief actuary. Fritz was formerly a partner at Ernst & Young LLP in Irvine.
Hospitality
The Costa Mesa Conference & Visitor Bureau hired Doreen McAllister as sales manager and Carol A. Heywood as travel marketing manager. McAllister has 20 years of experience in the tourism industry. Heywood was most recently a corporate communications manager at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach.
