Gov. Gray Davis recently appointed Dr. Bruce Clark, president and chief executive officer of Leighton and Associates, to serve on the Seismic Safety Commission. Leighton and Associates is a geotechnical and geologic hazards consulting firm in Irvine.
Fuscoe Engineering Inc., Irvine, promoted John Olivier and Raymond Tokihiro, both senior project managers, to principals. Olivier is the project manager for the Newport Banning Ranch project and Tokihiro is the project manager for Serrano Heights residential project in Orange.

PacifiCare Health Systems recently added Marie K. Connell as a senior manager in the corporate public affairs department. Connell was previously responsible for media relations at Pacific Life Insurance Co. in Newport Beach.

The Doubletree Hotel in Costa Mesa named Michelle Nation director of convention services. Nation previously was assistant director of meetings and conventions at the hotel.

Lori Arvanitidis joined Preston Gates and Ellis as an associate attorney specializing in employment and labor. Arvanitidis has counseled employers in a wide variety of employment litigation.
Manufacturing
The executive board of Burkert Contromatic International, Irvine, appointed Hal Reisiger president of its U.S. operations. After joining Burkert in 1998, Reisiger was vice president of operations before his recent promotion.
Nonprofits
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Orange County affiliate appointed Valina Cranfill volunteer manager. Previously, Cranfill was with RexSons Trucking where she was in charge of accounting and customer relations. In addition, the foundation named Andrea Williams program manager. Before joining the foundation, Williams was a research associate for the City of Hope National Medical Center in the department of hematology and bone marrow transplant.
Stephen Hobbs was elected to the board of directors for the Taco Bell Discovery Science Center, Santa Ana. Hobbs is a senior vice president and risk management practice leader at Marsh Risk and Insurance Services in Newport Beach.

Valinda Accetta joined Paine and Associates as director of its technology practice. Accette comes from Western Digital Corp., where she was manager of product public relations.

Jim Beam Brands Co. promoted Tom Morris to vice president for the West Coast division. Most recently, Morris was division director for the West Coast division. He joined the company in 1995 as sales manager.

Conexant Systems Inc. appointed Brad Yates senior vice president of human resources. Yates has 19 years of experience and was previously with Siebel Systems Inc.

Dr. Robert Conn, dean of UCSD’s Jacobs School of Engineering, Jan Peters, president and CEO of Olameter Inc., and Robert Pokelwaldt former CEO of York International, were elected to the board of directors of Intersil, Irvine. Intersil provides silicon technology for wireless local area networks.
AT & T; Wireless, LA, promoted Glenn Lurie to vice president and general manager for California and Hawaii and appointed David Haight vice president and general manager for the Southern California region. Most recently, Lurie was vice president and general manager for the Phoenix wireless operations of AT & T;, while Haight came from Prolific Sales, where he was president.
