Curran Named Union Bank Market President

Compiled by Meenakshi Viswanathan

Union Bank of California has named Mary Curran its market president of Orange County and San Diego commercial banking.

Curran formerly was a Union Bank senior vice president and market division manager for OC and San Diego. Curran oversees banking for businesses, ranging from family operations to big corporations.

The move brings Union Bank in line with other big banks here headed by market presidents, including Bank of America Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co.

Curran reports to Union Bank executive vice president and head of the commercial banking group, John Erickson, who works out of Los Angeles. She was one of five people promoted to market president at the bank earlier this month.

With $2.8 billion in Orange County deposits, San Francisco-based Union Bank, part of Japan’s Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group Inc., is the third largest bank here after Bank of America and Wells Fargo.

Curran joined the bank’s San Diego office as vice president and business banking team leader in 1989. She was promoted to senior vice president in 1996 and market manager later that year.

Born in Tokyo, Curran received a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Colorado and a master’s in business administration from San Diego State University. She has offices in Irvine and San Diego.

At the University of California, Irvine, Curran is a member of the Chief Executive Roundtable. She’s also a member of the Family Business Center at California State University, Fullerton.
